Mini Review #3. This is my blog post about..... This is my blog post about.... Momento! I found my picture. ;D

"Memento" a story in reverse. Please pull out your polaroid cameras and make a note that there is an option on the DVD that allows you to watch this film in the correct (chronological) order. This option is for the simple minded people that don't respect the fact that Chris Nolan might be dyslexic.  :D    Yes Chris Nolan is the master mind behind this great film (surprise, surprise...) and he portrays the story very well. In fact I was very impressed with the style of filming, although I doubted I would be. As a viewer found it new and interesting the way the shots were shown in reverse. The main character of the story, Leonard has short term memory loss and is trying to solve the murder of his former wife. As you could probably imagine, this would be a hard task to preform when you can't even remember what the hell you had for breakfast. Along with the memory issues Leonard has people after him and people using him. (Can't this guy catch a break?) In order for Leonard to remember the important things, he takes pictures and writes notes for himself (this includes writing notes one his body). His objective it to find "John G", his wife's killer, but he's in for a big surprise when he gets to the bottom of the cereal box. Many Times I found myself wondering what was going to happen next, when in fact I already knew.  Memento grabbed my attention right away with it's strange lighting, dark story, sense of mystery and it's new way of telling a story.  9 out of 10!

The main character reminds me of Dory.  Except Dory is more bad ass

Mini Reveiw # 2. I've come back to the future to tell you about "Back to the Future".

17 year old Marty Mcfly lives a crapy life with a wimpy father and an alchoholic mother. The only thing he can do for fun, is hang out with the local crazy scientist, Dr. Emmit Brown (yes...  The Doc!). Doc shows Marty his car, a DeLorean... which actualy turns out to be a time machine! This fine peice of tech runs on plutonium stolen from terrorists. The terrorists find doc and kill him, but Marty escapes in the DeLorean into 1955, the year his parents met. Of course because this is a movie, so the time machine runs out of fuel, leaving him stranded. He follows his young dad to the place where he meets his mom. Marty saves his dad from getting hit by his mothers fathers car (confusing...) , and gets hit himself. He wakes up in his young mom's room, and realizes that she's in love with him instaed of his father, taking his fathers place in history and messing up the future his mother and father should have had. But it's not to late for Marty to fix his mistake. He tracks down the young (yonger) doc, and asks for his help. The doc says that only a bolt of lightning can power the machine, and they decide to use the lightning that will strike the town clock tower in 1 week. This means Marty has 7 days to bring his parents together and also has 7 days to try not to screw any thing else up.   Marty figures if he can get his parents to kiss than they will instantly fall in love, so he come up with a plan for the school dance. In this great plan Marty would be harrassing his mother outside the dance only to be stopped by is young father who, in turn is rescuing his young mother.  But this plan is interupted by Biff, the school bully.  Martys young father, ready to go through with the plan, mistakes Biff for Marty and finds himself in a bit of a pickle. (ya i said pickle.) Now this is movie moments at its best. He finds curage enough to take a swing...  but fails...  BUT WAIT!   In his mind, the song "Eye of the Tiger" consumes him, making him swing his fist right into Biff's stupid face!  YA!  Now it's up to Marty to provid the music for his parents romantic dance that will lead to their first magical kiss, and he does so and finishes the night with with a rockin guitar solo "that maybe those kids aren't ready for yet."  Now Marty has to make it to town to get back to the future. But of course, becuase this is a movie, there has to be some sort of problem that will leave every one in the audience in suspence.   The cable that leads from the top of city hall down to the street has uncliped and it is up to Doc to climb to the top of city hall and re-atatch it.  As Marty is racing down the street towards the lightning rod the Doc is hanging from the cable that is still unconected. Doc struggles to clip it together but does just in the nic of time and Marty is sent BACK TO THE FUTURE!

Mini-Review #1 Comic books from the future! (Ya that will get you reading) :D

Comic Books!  BAM! I beleive that comic books are the perfect combination of pictures, text, story, action, explosions, violence, blood, super powers and sure bad-assury. Well come to think of it they have to be to keep readers interested, thats why i've continued to read them all these years. And when I say comic books, I mean every kind you can think of ; Manga, Graphic Novels, Comic strips and good ol' fasion Comic Books.  The reason these piles of paper are so well liked is because there is something for ever one! (no... seriously) If you want something with love and something that still has action seeping from it's very core, then pick up Scott Pilgrim.  If you like politics and a good classic story then pick up Watchmen.  If you like Jistin Beiber and are a grown man then you are some weird Media teacher.  :D   and if you sit and complain about reading comic books then your probably Haily Gooding or are some kind of freak.  The point I'm thorowly making is that Comic books are great and as soon as your done reading this master piece I expect you go and find that perfect Comic for you.

Personaly Moon Knight is my favorite comic book of them all!

Silent films! Nos-fergot to post this on time. :D

The birth of cinema was a glorious time. One filled with lack of colour, sound and well... a story line for that matter.  But as it progressed, the film indistry became a way for people to escape their lives by laughing along with Charlie Chaplin, taking a trip to the moon with some astronauts and even running away from a scary vampire.  The films of this eara didn't depend on special evects to reel in their viewers (all though "A Trip To The Moon" is pretty ground breaking) it relyed on a good story, good acting and the heart warming sound... of Benny Hill. (or Nosferatu's beautiful face)

Over the curse of 100 years or so our way of looking at movies has changed. For most, if the movie doesn't have an explosions and killing every 5 minute, then they aren't interested. Also, with the lack of sound and the hastle of the teenage viewer actualy having to read some thing, they tend to be turned away almost immediately.  Now im sorry to sum up our generation up as such a simple minded and easily amused bunch, but it's true. (for the most part)

So of course an old silent film can still be considered good. Times doesn't change the quality of the movie, time only changes the quality of the viewer.  I personaly would rather watch "Nosferatu" over any of the "Twilight" movies. (.. ya I went there..)  but I think speak for every teenage guy when I say "Edward... take a good look at Nosferatu. That is a real man!"

Music Video

The group who recorded this song is called "Bloc Party". They are an indie group from the UK and also one of my personal favorites.

The song is in the "techo/pop" genre and the video is very sereotypical to this style of music for so many reasons.  That fact that giant monters are fighting in a city just screams tecno music.  Giant robots falling in love in the middle of this crazy battle of  crappy special effects and dinky cars makes this video perfect for the song and that much more enjoyable to watch.

The video is obviously not even close to what reality is, but it shows everything in a very large and extreme scale for a reason. There is a love intrest in the video but the ways it is interperated is thats love is always set in a large scale and thing are over exaggerated and thats what the video is saying - that things may see like an overwelming battle (with giant monters :D) but it's not as bad as it seems.

I think that this music video appeals to teens, but only a certain group of teens. I find that I don't watch this video to hear the music- I'm gonna watch it to see giant monsters and robots fight in a little city!

This video makes me happy because when I think about it, it comes across as an independent video with all of its cheesie moments and effects. But it's not just that, it's that this video would still be fun to watch if it stood alone with out the music. I feel like this is a video that any one can watch and enjoy no matter how old.

This is my First Post!

I believe that media is very important in my life because most of the things i do in the day have to do with the internet, tv, books and movies. I listen to music through out the day as I do my school work, as I browse the internet and as i read my comics. The media follows me every where whether im in school or just hanging out with my friends.

I really enjoy reading, mostly comic books like Marvel Ultimates and Kick-Ass. Music also plays a big part in my life as it does in most of our lives.  I would like to say i watch a lot of T.V. but I really don't, i just end up watching T.V. shows on the internet. So at the end of the day I use the internet to enjoy most forms of media.

I think modern media and pop culture is growing and expanding so quick, every one is always talking their friends in one form or another. Every one is so conected to each other whether its through the internet or texting, we're always finding new ways to to comunicate with out being in the same room. The thing I do not like about pop culture is that its very straight forword sometimes. What I mean is that it is all ways that some style thats been "in" for nearly 10 years. The tv stations such as MTV and Much Music are scared to change up their music selection because they have been listening to the sames stuff (Rap, Pop) for 10 years.

I use the media for many different things, but I mostly use it for entertainment like reading and watching movies and shows. I do use media for many other porposes such as catching up on resent news, talking with friends and on rare ocations... I actualy learn something.

If I was stranded on a desert island and I had to choose 3 different types of media to have with me, I would choose :

Food is a form of media right?

1. T.V. (even though i watch most shows online)
2. Music
3. Books!

Man I wish food was a form of media!   The album that I would like to have with me is "Coming to Save You" by The Sunshine Underground (Edwards you need to look this album up... no seriously). I love this album because I can listen to the whole thing with out skipping a single song, - its great, I cant get enough of this album.

But in very close second would have been "Is This It" by The Strokes.  :D

It's really hard to choose my favorite book (because Im including comic "books" and graphic novels), so Im gonna choose 3! BAM!  My first choice would have to be "Jumper" by Steven Gould because I read that book in grade 5 and i was instantly hooked. Its what got me reading more as a kid. My second choice would have to be the whole Ultimates Graphic novel series (yes Im cheating) because its such a great take on the clasic Avengers team with a few new twists. My third choice is gonna have to be "Wanted" by Mark Millar because its just such a crazy little story thats so for away from reality - i just really enjoyed reading it.

Now who wouldn't want to have T.V. with them on a desert island? As much as I would like to say Doctor Who is my favorite show, I can't because I am more comited to "Heroes" (greastest show of all time). I enjoy Heroes more because I've been watching it since the begining and I well.. I can't explain why I like the show so much. Its just a likeable show that lots of people can relate to but it also has the Sifi aspect to it.
